Branford Community Leaders Urge Residents to Get Flu Shots

Residents should act now to avoid the potential deadly combination of the flu and COVID-19

Local Branford community leaders are reminding residents that there is still plenty of time to protect themselves and their families from the potentially dangerous combination of the seasonal flu and COVID-19.

Health officials warn that the flu can be especially dangerous for young children, pregnant women, adults 65 and older and anyone with chronic health conditions. A yearly vaccine is recommended for anyone 6 months and older.

“No one should risk getting the flu and COVID-19 at the same time,” said the Rev. Dr. Leroy O. Perry, Jr., pastor, St. Stephens AME Zion Church, and cultural ambassador to the Yale Clinical Research Program. “While we don’t yet have a COVID-19 vaccine, we do have excellent vaccines for the flu so you should not wait to protect yourself and your loved ones.”

The flu is likely to continue to spread throughout the late fall and winter months underscoring that the need is still there. And though there is a limited supply of vaccine, there are still plenty of doses available if you act soon.

“No more excuses. There are many places to get your flu shot and almost all are free to you whether it’s in your workplace, doctor’s office or clinic, school or community center, local pharmacy or even retail and grocery stores,” Rev. Perry said.
