It’s a Go! Updating the Historic James Blackstone Library

Blackstone Library RenovationOur beautiful town offers countless treasures, from breathtaking beaches to timeless tree-lined streets. The historic James Blackstone Library is certainly among our most prominent assets.

Last month, the town of Branford appropriated $5,245,000 to fund the renovations and expansion of the James Blackstone Memorial Library. The appropriation reflects the entire budgeted cost of the project and will be offset by:
•$1 million from a Connecticut State Library Grant
•$800,000 in local donations, including the $100,000 matching grant from BCF
•$3.4 million from the town of Branford

Last April, our foundation was thrilled to announce its largest matching grant ever—$100,000—to benefit the renovation. In an effort to inspire donations, we are matching every dollar donated by you so that your gift will be doubled! You can make a difference! Click here to donate today.

There’s a lot to be excited about with the proposed library renovations. Built in the late 1800’s, the majestic James Blackstone Library has served the Branford community by providing invaluable access to information, resources, and community events, not to mention stunning architectural beauty. The proposed renovations will preserve the original integrity of the library while accommodating modern needs.

•Ground-level children’s section
•Designated teen area and cafe
•Increased number of public-access computers to 35
•New outdoor terrace (pictured)
•Upstairs bathroom

The new year is off to an amazing start, with help from people like you! The BCF wishes to thank everyone who donated in 2017. With your generosity, we are making a difference for the community!
