BCF Awards $2,500 Grant for Residents with Differing Abilities
The Branford Community Foundation, the leader in supporting a variety of local philanthropic needs, programs and services for 35 years, has distributed a $2,500 grant to SARAH, Inc. to support and enhance recreation and social activities to residents of Branford and the surrounding communities with differing abilities.
Since 1957, SARAH, Inc. has been a community service provider serving children and adults of all ages with disabilities in communities across the Connecticut Shoreline and Greater New Haven area. As an organization committed to enhancing skills and enriching the lives of those who often cannot speak for themselves, SARAH, Inc. provides early intervention, life skills, work training, employment, recreation, leisure and advocacy programs to members of our community, and their families, that are living with intellectual and other disabilities. SARAH, Inc. supports people with challenges related to autism spectrum, intellectual disabilities, physical challenges, and mobility issues and conditions related to aging, including Alzheimer’s disease.
Grant support from the Branford Community Foundation grant directly supports the SARAH, Inc. Recreation and Leisure Connections program, providing social and leisure activities that foster the development of physical and athletic skills and promote the overall social, emotional and physical well-being of individuals with differing abilities.
The Branford Community Foundation benefits all residents by pooling contributions from like-minded citizens, managing these funds with professional guidance, and then carefully granting a portion of the income generated to local, nonprofit organizations. As a multipurpose permanent local charitable endowment, the Branford Community Foundation helps to build a healthy and successful community by supporting everything from basic needs and health services, to local environmental issues and education, to the arts and other programs.
